George Beasley-Murray is probably the most famous British Baptist theologian of the 20th Century. He specialised in New Testament studies and wrote an influential book on baptism in the New Testament.

One slight correction. The chair of New Testament at Southern Baptist Seminary is the James Buchanan HARRISON professorship. The last name was omitted.
My later father-in-law, Eric Rust, a good friend of George Beasley-Murray, used to reminisce about how both of them, having joined Louisville churches, could scarcely believe that they were thereby Southern Baptists!
