Theologian. Minister in the URC. expert on the theology of John Owen. Former doctoral student of Colin Gunton. PhD 1989 on the holy spirit in the person of Christ. author of Incarnation and inspiration (2007) and The promise of peace (2006). He is currently working on a textbook on christology. The recent revival of interest in john owen's theology can be traced back to the late 1980s and the beginnings of Alan Spence's doctoral studies under Colin Gunton. Spent many years as minister in south africa before coming back to the UK.
