Francis Watson is moving (HT to Sean). He's leaving Aberdeen where he's been professor of New Testament since 1999 and from September he will be at Durham in a brand new position as Research Professor. It will be a big loss for Aberdeen, but perhaps it marks the end of the exodus across the border John Webster, Stephen Holmes and Oliver O'Donovan have all recently left England for Scotland) and the beginning of some movement the other way.
Durham has a long history in biblical studies (it's a bit of a who's who in the new testament world!). The current home of Jimmy Dunn (lightfoot professor of divnity [1990-2003]), John Barclay (lightfoot professor of divinity [2003-], Stephen Barton (reader in new testament [2002-]), Walter Moberly (1985-) and the Bishop of Durham NT Wright (2005-) and in the past Michael Ramsey, C. F. D. Moule, C. K. Barrett (1945-1982) and C. E. B. Cranfield.
