Hmm, don't like the words elitist or excellence in terms of being a disciple of Jesus. Paul, who said "imitate me" also said, "I am the worst of sinners" - I partly think what he was getting at with the "imitate me" thing is, "If I can do this, anyone can!" - If the worst of sinners is included because of the grace of God, then we are all included. Intellectuals, gnostics and some pomo thinkers have caused us to think in terms of being "best" or "better" at following Christ - but if, "in Christ, there is neither slave nor free, greek nor jew, male nor female" where is the elitism? WE in our humanity want there to be a sliding scale so we can aspire . . . not to be like Christ, but to better than other human beings - wrong headed!

elitist ?
Now would that be the sheep or the goat?
think about it.
