Maggi's blog the last few weeks has been an unmissable place to visit. Today's she has blogged again on the eucharist and children. I really like the title: eat now. understand later. The whole issue of eucharist and children has been one with being discussing as a church leadership. We've reached a good compromise (see Maggi's post on disagreement), although in all honesty I still veered to Maggi's way of thinking. Oh to be an Anglican and have infant baptism. I'm a Baptist heretic on this one. I struggle theologically to find a place for children, especially those who grow up in the church family, in baptist ecclesiology. We can't help but exclude them or perhaps ironically de-position baptism. Theologically baptism should come prior to eucharist, but it all gets confused in baptist churches. Eucharist should be a place for anyone who wants to encounter God.
Hey andy. This one has got me thinking again. I've added another bit to the conversation over at my place about whether you can choose a sacrament for yourself or whether it's administered by the Church. Come and tell me what you think

andy - as a fellow baptist I think baptists in general have a very shallow understanding of baptisim (no pun intended). I think part of the "problem" is that we over emphasise the symbolic aspect of what we're doing.
